The prize: a big ol' box stuffed with scrapbooking goodies!
Sorry, but due to crazy shipping costs, this challenge is open to the US only!

Thoughts from June '11...

At first I wasn't sure why I had gotten this Sassafras line, but after awhile, I realized it was perfect for those fun, no-frills cards for gals. I know putting buttons and bows on cards is more fun for me, but it seems most people round here like the clean and simple stuff.

I got this small box of flowers by Making Memories at a local discount store, planning have it as a giveaway. But then I accidentally pulled a few out when musing what to put on a card, and then I realized how much fun these were. So, maybe when I go back to the store, if I see another box, I'll pass it on, but this one's mine. :)

And now you can link up your card for a big ol' box of goodies!

My thoughts from April '11...

Our theme this month was Mothers Day - I know, I know, it's over. But really, do we need a special day to send our mom's a card? I know my Mom going through the experience of nine homeschooled kids definitely deserves cards on days other than just Mothers Day. :)

My Mom loves the simple, yet effective cards, so thats what I tried to work in on my card here.
Using THIS adorable floral paper from Melody Ross's Homespun Chic collection - so cute! I see myself using this adorable pattern many more times in the future. ;)

Oh, how I love these 'Fun House' chipboard frames - already used half my stash of these precious embellishments!

A hand-dyed cluster of seam binding finishes of this floral card. :)

And now you can link up for the challenge!

Throwback Tuesday #8

Another one of my first cards as a design team member for GCD Studios starts the May Throwback Tuesday's off!

What I said back in April '11...

...is what I feel about Melody Ross's 'Soul Food' line. :) I've already has so much fun playing with this line, but here is my very first card using it...

We were challenged by Heidi to make a project with white space and a clear title/sentiment...white space, check. Title...um, not so much, but it's there! ;)

I know you can't feel this card, so I'll just go ahead and tell you that the butterfly is sparkly, and those white buttons are fuzzy. Oh yes, fuzzy.

For these wonderfully fuzzy buttons, I punched circles out from Melody Ross's Soulfield paper from the beautiful 'Soul Food' line...

Used a 1" punch here, and cut through the middle of the flowers...

Then adhered them to some chipboard buttons...

And poked through the holes...

And oila! Lovely, touchable, fuzzable buttons. :)

And that, my friends, completes my first GCD Studios technique assignment...and this months first Throwback Tuesday!

Throwback Tuesday #7

I hope you've been enjoying the posts so far - today I have one of the first cards I made for GCD Studios as a design team member. :)

The deets: every Tuesday, I will post a card that has been sitting in the draft closet too long. At the end of each month, I will randomly select a winner from all the valid challenge entries!
The challenge: link up an old papercraft related blog post, card photo, or post one of your old drafts/pictures! An additional entry will be given to those who comment on the Throwback Tuesday posts for that month.
The prize: a big ol' box stuffed with scrapbooking goodies!
Sorry, but due to crazy shipping costs, this challenge is open to the US only!

The fix: I think this card is pretty cute, and the fact that it could work so well for girls or boys really makes me want to go easy on it. Plus, I had a limited amount of supplies, so, for now, I would maybe stamp a subtle background on the cream panel so it wouldn't look so blank. The chipboard tassels are cute, but they look just a little wonky...I'm not sure how I would fix that now.

Thanks for popping in today and God bless!

Throwback Tuesday #6

A fun, happy card for today's post!

My previous thoughts:

The inside...

That sentiment from an old Sugarloaf set (part of my first stamp set kit!) goes so well with this fun cuckoo set from Hero Arts.
The card front...

I accidentally mixed some blue with a gold died ribbon, to get this almost puke green seam binding. Didn't want to waste it though, so I stuck it on this card.

I'm so obsessed with this cuckoo set...love those clocks. :)

The fix: the ribbon! Again! Note to self - if you have messed up ribbon, do NOT use it! The only other thing that stands out to me is the lack of color in the main stamped panel. I think I a little bit of coloring in the image, and maybe a brighter pearl would've helped. But, I do give myself a pat on the back for the inside sentiment - I don't do that nearly enough, and it really spices up cards.

Thanks for stopping in today and God bless!

Throwback Tuesday #5

A sweet, delicate number up today!

My previous thoughts:

Some Glossy Accents keeps the lace in place and the roses as well - this stuff is like the cardmakers super glue - love it!

And the handmade postage stamp-like embellishment...

The whole card...

The fix: I like the colors of this card, but the lace looks a little wonky here. I think I might also sneak in some pearls beneath the stamp die cut, just to balance it out a bit. I can't be too harsh with this card though, because it always had a soft spot in my crafty heart. ;)

That's it for today, folks! Thanks for popping in and God bless!

Throwback Tuesday #4

Today's post is deuce! That is, two mini cards for one Throwback Tuesday post.

And now for my old thoughts:

I love THIS set. Love. It.
The sweet mini images, the cute sentiment, the funky frame...pure sweetness.
So I made some mini cards - one cute, one funky.

Cutie.

 ...funky.

Some yummy embossed 'frosting'

The fix: honestly, since these are just wee little note cards, I don't think there is much I would do. I think they fulfill their simple purpose pretty well.

That's it for this Throwback Tuesday post! Thanks for stopping in and God bless!

Throwback Tuesday #3

We're starting off April's Throwback Tuesday's off with a bang, people!

The card today is just...ugh. And now for my thoughts on it from approximately two years ago. ;)

That ugly bow thing was made with scraps...I didn't mind it before, but looking at the pic, I am so....ewwwww. I accidentally got some brown dye in my blue ribbon, which explains the yucky color.
So, to make up for the yucky ribbon, I added some lovely Websters Pages bloomers. {Sigh} Love. That. Stuff.

The fix: first off, that bow/blob has GOT to go. I cringe just looking at it! The stitching here is also pretty pathetic - I can tell now that I obviously didn't have the tension tight enough. Also, that big button is clashing with those fluffy bloomers. I think I also might want to round the corners of the base, to soften the look up a bit. I'm not crazy now about using huge sentiments on shabby cards - I usually like the focus to be on some pretty mass of things, and then sneak the sentiment in some corner. ;)

Throwback Tuesdays

...a new 'feature' here on the blog!
So here's the thing; I have a ton of old cards to post, I'm super bad at blogging during school, I'm worse at getting giveaways started, and, I have a TON of scrapbooking goodies to giveaway!
The solution to these problems?
A little monthly challenge here on the old blog-a-roo.

This way, I blog, clean out the draft closet, purge my overwhelming stash, and yinz have a chance to be the lucky recipient of that purging! Win-win!
Along the way, I might chat a bit about how I would alter the card design, so yinz might get a little insight into  my 'design' process (or lack thereof). ;)

So without further ado, the first Throwback Tuesday!

My main problem with this draft is the photography - blech and double blech! This was in the not-so-good-ol days of taking pictures outdoors, even in the freezing cold! This was a particularly murky day, and that, combined with our pathetic, chunky old camera (though I shouldn't be too hard on it, considering the practically ancient one we had before it) made for a pretty nasty picture.
As for the design, it's not my fave, but I think the only way I would've changed it without altering it completely, would be to add a nice brown coconut button. THESE yummy buttons add some nice texture, while the color would tone down the extreme pinkness going on. ;) Ooo, and some actual stitches, whether stamped, drawn or actually sewn - it is a sewing card, after all!

Now it's your turn!

So tell me, what are your thoughts on Throwback Tuesday? Tell me, I'd LOVE to know!
