Watercolor Northern Lights + VIDEO

Hello all! Today I'm participating in the Hero Arts November 2017 My Monthly Hero Arts blog hop!

The main kit stamp set is super fun, and I've already made a card and a tag using it - see them on the Hero Arts blog HERE.
For today though, I wanted to play with an add-on stamp set, Winter Animals. I got stuck on the idea of using the Northern Lights with the animals, and it was just too easy to make a trio of cards using different animals.

I started by creating the backgrounds, a watercolor mixture of Chipped Sapphire, Broken China, Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers. Watch my video (at the end of the card pictures) to see how.

After I heat set the watercolored background, I added some "stars" by flicking Hero Arts Unicorn spray, and then heat embossing them with clear Sparkle embossing powder. This way, I didn't have to wait for them to dry or risk the white fading if I heat set it.
Also, if I have any excuse to put that sparkle embossing powder on a project, you'd better believe I'll use it. ;)

I created the "middle ground" (not sure if that's the technical term, but it's what I'm going with!) by die cutting the pretty one of the Snowy Drifts out of some black cardstock, and then heat embossing black powder over it. This gives it some pretty shine and also helps it stand out from the foreground.

The foreground was Hero Arts black cardstock, prepped with anti-static powder. I particularly like using the Hero Arts black cardstock for this black-on-black look, as the cardstock isn't super black and the embossing can stand out from it.

I then stamped trees from Winter Silhouettes and critters from Winter Animals in Versamark, and then heat embossed with the Black Detail powder. Be careful with this stuff - its reach is as bad far as glitter!

The sentiment is from Wonderful Stamp and Cut, heat embossed in White. Once I had all my layers finished, I just trimmed them down and adhered them to watercolor card bases.

Rainbow Thanks + VIDEO // Hero Arts

Squeezing in one last quick post (and a video!) for February.

Again, starring the February My Monthly Hero kit - I'm a little obsessed. The March kit also promises to be a doozy, so don't feel down if you missed out on this one. ;)

I only planned on making the right one, but while filming the video, the second just happened.

I started my rainbow cards out with a Sea card base, that I stamped using the gorgeous Kelly's Background Squares and then heat embossed in clear Sparkle embossing powder.

Isn't that such a pretty background? Hero Arts has some other really pretty backgrounds, like Kelly's Background Stars, Floral Wallpaper Background, and Doily Pattern.

I die cut a white cardstock panel using the Rectangle Infinity dies, then stamped and heat embossed sentiment from Thanks Stamp and Cut.

For the "thanks" die, I heat embossed a piece of black cardstock with Black Detail embossing powder, then die cut it. I do this so that I can get that extra shine from the black powder - it's something I especially love doing with the Black Sparkle embossing powder.

The umbrella's were from the main kit, which is sold-out and unavailable, but I listed some good substitutions for them in THIS blog post. Anyways, I stamped and heat embossed the umbrellas, colored them in quickly with my ZIG's, die cut them, and adhered them to my card base! All done!

One quick question - has anyone else noticed their red ZIG ink being rather messy? Even when heat set, the red ink seems to very easily come off at slight touches.
Lastly, pay no heed to the fact that my rainbow is out of order! Lol, didn't realize until I was doing the voice over for the video! Let me know if you catch it, because it apparently was sneaky enough for me to make the mistake on both cards. ;)

It's been awhile since I've done one of these, and this one is a quicky!

Hero Arts Winter 2016 Catalog Release Blog Hop

Welcome to the Hero Arts Winter 2016 Catalog release blog hop! (whew, that was a mouthful!) Thank you so very much for stopping in today! The new products have been shipping to retailers for a few weeks now, so you may have seen them out and about, but today's hop marks the launch in the Hero Arts online store.

There are so many lovely goodies in the catalog, and today I chose to play with the Peace Stamp and Cut and Holiday Floral Bold Prints.

I just love how delicate the Holiday Floral Bold Prints looks heat embossed! First off is the classic Christmas red...

I embossed the background in white on some gray cardstock, then added a little color with a red ZIG pen. I then die cut my sentiment from some red velvet ribbon shtuff - I'm not really sure where it came from (my mom had it in her Christmas supply stash), but it's the same material used to make the rather cheapy velvet bows, so you could just get one of those to achieve the same look (I also have some similar supplies linked below).
It gives nice, soft, fuzzy feel. ;)

I finished the card off with a heat embossed sentiment on vellum.

For a more wintery feel, I wanted to show you three different variations of the background stamped, because this stamp is really so versatile and beautiful.

It's hard to tell in this photo, so here's the breakdown...

Card #1.
The background for this card stamped first in Versamark, then in Mint Julep, and then heat embossed with some Clear Sparkle embossing powder (I'm pretty much obsessed with this powder).

This card has the sparkle, color and heat embossed look.

Card #2.

This card was stamped simply with Mint Julep.

This card has just the color - no heat embossing or sparkle.

And card #3.
This card was stamped with Versamark and then heat embossed with the Clear Sparkle embossing powder.

This card is more subtle than card #1, as it doesn't have the color from the Mint Julep.

And here's a video of how I made them...

Watercolored Vellum Wreath + VIDEO + GIVEAWAY // Altenew

Hey all! Today I have another card using vellum (I can't seem to stop!) and a video! To see my Hero Arts post, go HERE.

I knew as soon as I laid eyes on the Doodle Blooms stamp set that I had to make a wreath with those delicate leaf images! And of course, I had to gold emboss them, and do it on vellum - one thing led to another, and this card was "born" and filmed in the space of about thirty minutes! Unfortunately, it took me a lot longer to narrate it, since my one year old niece and three year old nephew are visiting, so the house is hardly quiet. ;)

The how-to video...

If you are having problems viewing this video, please try watching it HERE on YouTube.

Gah! I really need to cut back on the vellum! But seriously, how pretty are these images embossed, colored and die cut? Because seriously, if you're considering this stamp set (which you definitely should be), the dies are pretty much a must. It makes creating light, fluffy cards so much easier and so much more fun.

I stamped the background with the leaf images, and embossed a sentiment from Beautiful Day to complete the card.

Thanks to Nicole and Altenew for this opportunity - I had so much fun! Though I was a teeny bit nervous creating a video for something other than my own entertainment (as I always am ;)).

For all the details on this fun video challenge, and a chance to be the next guest designer for the Altenew video challenges, go HERE.

Because I love this company and their stamps so much, and to thank you for stopping in, I'm giving away a $30 gift card to Altenew. You have three ways of entering, for a total of three entries:
Just leave a comment on this blog post, the YouTube video, and THIS Instagram post.

This giveaway ends 2/28.

Thanks so much for stopping in and God bless!
